Open for business…in Los Angeles | General
February 4, 2010 //
Help needed! I am actively seeking to book photography jobs in Los Angeles. The ideal setup would be to expand my reach enough to commute between Nashville and LA for shoots/projects. Pretty lofty goal, right? Well, a few of you may remember an email that I sent out roughly a year ago when I made one of the first steps to go after my photography interest…
____
“Over the past several months I’ve become serious about pursuing photography. I’m not at a place to have photography become a full time occupation to support me financially, but hopefully I will be at that place in the future. One of these days I’d love to be a wedding and/or fine art photographer. For this next step the most ideal set up would be to assist a professional photographer. That way, I’m gaining valuable experience as a photographer and bringing in a decent income to help cover the bills. However, I know it can be very challenging to land a set up like that.”

Crazy to think about that time in my life and how impossible and far fetched it seemed to become a photographer. That whole process revealed to me the importance of inviting others into my journey. So many friends were influential in helping me throughout that process. My natural default (and for most of our culture) is to be independent. But, I need people. I need help. I need input. I could not have achieved my “impossible” goals without the community that was around me.
I definitely don’t want to limit my options to strictly wedding photography opportunities. I am thinking much broader than that. Such as head shots for actors/actresses, meeting with booking agents, meeting with other photographers, etc. For now, my goal is to get the word out. Any referral you have would be so helpful! My email can be found in the “Contact” tab above. Here’s to dreaming big.

Park City | General
February 1, 2010 //
I don’t normally get into landscape/nature photography, but I really liked the turnout of these few images. I was out in Park City, UT with friends for the Sundance Film Festival. Park City is very cool. A nice ski town with great restaurants and amazing views. I took aerial shots from the airplane when landing in Salt Lake City and then I took some when we were descending into Las Vegas on our layover flying back to Nashville. It was hard to take in (and fully capture the details with a camera) everything that I was seeing through my small seat window in the airplane. Incredible scenery to look down upon. And, the last shot is from my friends house where all of us stayed while we were out there. Amazing view as you can see!

I took it a step further and actually brought my camera with me when I went out to explore the city of Los Angeles. The iPhone camera can only do so much. Here is a hodgepodge of sorts that I captured as I wandered throughout various neighborhoods in LA. I appreciate the previous comments! Keep them coming.

LA through the iPhone | General
January 17, 2010 //
I’m out here in Los Angeles for the first time. I decided to take advantage of some free time I had to visit friends and use the trip as an opportunity to grow as a photographer. While exploring the city I captured random shots with my iPhone. Here’s several that stand out as my favorites. I used a couple applications on my iPhone to edit the photos.

Natalie + Branford | Engaged
January 3, 2010 //
Natalie and I grew up together…and Branford and I were fraternity brothers in college. Great couple. Once they started dating in college I knew that it was going to be long term. They fit together so well. The location was perfect for Natalie and Branford. It was Telfair Plantation, the Hamilton family farm in Warren County. We drove around the land before the shoot and I was overwhelmed with everything that was around. I could have spent the full day there and still have run out of time taking photos. The horses were a huge plus…although semi-challenging to get them to pose how I wanted. I really enjoyed this shoot…Natalie and Branford were troopers. Hope you like them!

Uncle Skipper | General
December 27, 2009 //
I was named after my mom’s brother. His full name was Stephen Mayo Hiscock and he went by Skip or Skipper. The below photo is a Christmas card that my uncle sent home to his family and friends roughly one month before his death. At the young age of 20, my Uncle Skipper was shot down in a helicopter during the Vietnam War. Once I saw this card on my parents refrigerator I wanted to replicate the photo somehow and give it as a Christmas gift to my grandparents (his parents). Now that I’m a photographer I notice more elements to photographs. And to me, this shot captures so much. Oftentimes, people ask me where I got my name. I always enjoy telling the story…it makes me proud of what he did and that I get to bear the same name.
The second photo below is what I decided to do for my grandparents Christmas gift this year. Hope you had a great Christmas and here’s to a great 2010…

Leila + Brian | Engaged
December 19, 2009 //
Leila and Brian were referred to me by a good photographer friend of mine. Let me say this…I’m so glad they decided to have me photograph their engagement photos. They are a great couple. One of my favorite engagement shoots to date…it’s alright to have favorites, right? Luckily, we were able to schedule the shoot on a day that was slightly warmer outside. Leila and Brian spend a good bit of time at Yazoo Brewery so they chose Marathon Village as their location. Marathon Village is where I used to practice photography when I first got into it a year ago. So, it was great to go back with the camera and have actual people to photograph. I wish they were not moving up North because I would really like to photograph their wedding!

Andra + Stephen | Married
December 8, 2009 //
Andra and Stephen’s wedding was their own. Each detail and person involved made it a uniquely special event for the two of them. And, in my opinion…those can be the best weddings to attend and to photograph. After the ceremony was over they both went up to the balcony of the church to soak in all that was in the room. Once the guests noticed them in the balcony they began cheering for the newlyweds…very cool. The reception was less than a mile from the church so they decided to walk…another really cool idea by the couple. We stopped along the way to take photos. Also, you’ll notice a couple shots of their invitation and other print designs. These pieces were designed by Emily Keafer. She is a talented one. Now onto the photos…
